Eligibility Criteria
OGS weighs academic record heavily, and you also have to meet status and enrollment rules. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person; a limited number of awards go to international students with valid study permits. Register full-time in an eligible master's or PhD program at an Ontario university for 2026-2027. Meet the academic standard, generally at least an A- average over the last two completed years of study.
Scholarship Benefits
- The benefit is direct funding toward your year of graduate study.
- $5,000 per session, up to $15,000 across three consecutive sessions in a year.
- Two sessions of funding total $10,000; three total $15,000.
- Paid out by session, so the money arrives over the award period rather than all at once.
- Can be held alongside university funding packages, subject to your institution's rules.
- Renewable through reapplication, within the per-level and lifetime caps.
- OGS isn't automatically renewed. You reapply each year you want it, and selection is competitive every time. The per-level caps still apply across renewals, so a master's student can draw OGS for at most two years and a doctoral student for at most four, all within the six-year lifetime limit.
Verify eligibility and deadlines on the official scholarship page before applying.
